Combat Arms is a multiplayer team based shooter game that takes a popular theme and puts a slight spin on it. If you have ever played Counter Strike, you are sure to be struck by the similarity of this game. Combat Arms feels a lot like a Counter Strike clone without offering gamers anything really new or different. There are six different maps for players to explore, and the great graphics and attention to details in the Combat Arms world makes exploring the locations a lot of fun. There are multiple routes marked out on the maps for players to navigate as well as a large number of strategic points to utilise such as sniper decks and choke points.

In addition, players have the choice of four different game modes, namely Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, Search & Destroy and the Deathmatch. The objectives and missions in each of these modes are different, which allows teams of gamers to spend many happy hours making their way through the locations, looking for the enemy and taking them out before being spotted.

However, these game modes are not really anything special in themselves and they are clearly clones of missions taken from other games. It would have been much more satisfying if the creators of Combat Army had used their imaginations to come up with completely different types of missions. Granted, the scope in this type of game is rather limited, but there are still many interesting things that could have been included.

The combat is fast paced and replicates the action of an arcade game. This takes away the element of realism that other games in this genre offer and makes the game feel a bit cheap and rushed. Players are notified by icons on their head of the best types of moves to use to take out the enemy such as kill streaks and headshots, diminishing the decision making process to some extent.

One of the ways that Combat Arms manages to step away from the familiar format to some extent is in the fact that weapons are rented rather than being bought. Although there are plenty of opportunities for players to earn game cash by completing missions and scoring kills, the general cost of weapons and amo is relatively low and it does not take too much effort to built up an arsenal that can be used to take out the competition.

Many of the game elements can be customised to provide players with the perfect options and tools they need to take out the soldiers of fortune. In addition to customising the looks of their characters, they can choose which guns they want to do battle with as well as a wide range of accessories such as silencers and scopes.

Fans of Counter Strike are sure to have fun playing Combat Arms. Although the game doesn’t really provide players with any new features or formats to explore, what it does provide has been well rendered. People who are happy to settle for an imitation will find that Combat Arms is a very engaging game.
